HRA Commemorates World AIDS Day

CAFCA | December 29, 2014 |

Over 75 members of the community, elected officials, clients and staff joined HRA’s Division of Health and Wellness to commemorate World AIDS Day on December 1, 2014 at South Church in New Britain. Observed on December 1 every year, World AIDS Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of the HIV infection.

New Britain’s Mayor Erin Stewart joined State Senator Terry Gerratana, State Representative Robert Sanchez and other elected officials to commemorate the fact that HIV and AIDS still exist in our communities and to praise the important work that HRA’s Division of Health and Wellness does in preventing the spread of this disease.

Speaker and poet, Ms. Brandy Williams reflected on her mother’s journey with the virus. An interdenominational prayer for healing and a candle lighting ceremony followed her remarks.
