The Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA), the Community Action Agency serving southeastern Connecticut, received a $5,000.00 grant from the Savings Institute Bank and Trust Foundation. The funds will to the agency’s Homelessness Prevention/Diversion Financial Assistance Program (HP/D).  The program targets limited income families who are at risk of losing their housing and face entry into homeless shelters.

?In addition to providing one-time financial assistance for housing expenses such as security deposits, rent payments/arrearages, utility bills/arrearages, and ancillary client expenses (transportation, motel stays), the HP/D program also offers case management support to address underlying issues that contribute to clients’ housing instability. These include life skills coaching (e.g., financial literacy, budgeting, tenancy best practices), referrals to services within TVCCA, (e.g., employment/job training, nutrition, early childhood education, energy assistance), and/or services from other community agencies to meet clients’ healthcare, mental health counseling and treatment needs.
